Music Mondays – Dear Future Husband

Dear Future Husband,

This week on the podcast, the Happy Hour Ladies are back and we are talking relationships and money. As a financial planner, I get to witness firsthand the effects money has on relationships, and it all starts at the beginning. If you set the tone right from the start, then money will not be high on your relationship stressors list; however, without a proper money foundation, you can expect lots of issues surrounding money in your home.

When I met my hubby 13 years ago, we didn’t talk much about money. In fact, we shared some of our money challenges on my podcast. When I met my hubby, I worked in investment banking job with a high-paying job that scared a few of his predecessors away. I remember a conversation early on where he said that he was comfortable with me making more money than him, and I knew in that moment he was my future husband.

In hindsight, I wish we had more money conversations and he challenged my spendy ways more, but it’s all in the past now. Thankfully, today we are on the same page, but we could have saved ourselves some money stresses if we laid a better foundation early on.

Letter to Your Future Partner

Meghan Trainor’s (who I consider like a little sister, not only for the blonde hair but her curvy body type) newest song, Dear Future Husband, is a love letter to the future love of her life giving him the instructions for making her happy. I thought I would first share with you her love letter and then I wrote my own letter to her melody for what I think someone should look for in a future partner.

Meghan Trainor’s Version

Dear future husband,

Here’s a few things

You’ll need to know if you wanna be

My one and only all my life

(Ohhhhh)

Take me on a date

I deserve it, babe

And don’t forget the flowers every anniversary

‘Cause if you’ll treat me right

I’ll be the perfect wife

Buying groceries

Buy-buying what you need

You got that 9 to 5

But, baby, so do I

So don’t be thinking I’ll be home and baking apple pies

I never learned to cook

But I can write a hook

Sing along with me

Sing-sing along with me (hey)

You gotta know how to treat me like a lady

Even when I’m acting crazy

Tell me everything’s alright

Dear future husband,

Here’s a few things you’ll need to know if you wanna be

My one and only all my life

Dear future husband,

If you wanna get that special lovin’

Tell me I’m beautiful each and every night

After every fight

Just apologize

And maybe then I’ll let you try and rock my body right

Even if I was wrong

[Laugh] You know I’m never wrong

Why disagree?

Why, why disagree?

You gotta know how to treat me like a lady

Even when I’m acting crazy

Tell me everything’s alright

Dear future husband,

Here’s a few things

You’ll need to know if you wanna be

My one and only all my life (hey, baby)

Dear future husband,

Make time for me

Don’t leave me lonely

And know we’ll never see your family more than mine

I’ll be sleeping on the left side of the bed (hey)

Open doors for me and you might get some kisses

Don’t have a dirty mind

Just be a classy guy

Buy me a ring

Buy-buy me a ring, (babe)

You gotta know how to treat me like a lady

Even when I’m acting crazy

Tell me everything’s alright

Dear future husband,

Here’s a few things

You’ll need to know if you wanna be

My one and only all my life

Dear future husband,

If you wanna get that special loving

Tell me I’m beautiful each and every night

(That’s right!)

Oh-woah

Future husband, better love me right

What are traits that you love about your partner? Were you always on the same page with money issues? If you aren’t with anyone, what traits would you like in a future partner?
